| Press Release: Hidden Mid Career Unemployment |
| Richard Fuller, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Bedford and Kempston launched a campaign to raise awareness of the
issue of mid-career redundancies and warned of the high levels of hidden unemployment in the town.
Meeting with Wilf Deakin, the Managing Director of MatureIT, Richard
Fuller said “I have been struck by the number of people I have met around our town who have been made redundant over the past few months, many of them in the middle of their careers. They face daunting challenges of continuing to pay their bills and mortgages while looking for work in these most difficult economic times.”
“Often the official statistics do not capture these people, but their pain and frustration is significant and growing.”
Wilf Deakin added “People who are made redundant in the middle of their careers – in their 40s and 50s – often find themselves shut out of job opportunities. The country is losing an enormous pool of talent and experience; experience it needs to cope with this recession.
Richard Fuller wants to hear from local residents who have found themselves in this situation so he can present his findings and
recommendations to David Cameron.
